Q. What is Give 250 Connecticut?
Give 250 Connecticut is a state-wide fundraising event hosted by CT Humanities to support municipalities (or their designees) to raise funds for their 250th commemoration. In partnership with the America 250 | CT Commission, over 100 municipalities around Connecticut have begun to develop plans and support from Give 250 Connecticut will help bring those ideas to life.
Q. When is Give 250 Connecticut?
Give 250 Connecticut will last 250 hours -- from 8 AM on July 1 through 6 PM on July 11, 2025.
Q. How does Give 250 Connecticut work?
Beginning at 8 AM on July 1 and ending at 6 PM on July 11, donors can make secure contributions to the municipalities of their choice. The minimum donation is $10 and there is no maximum. Municipalities will compete for cash prizes to add to the fun!

Q. Why should my municipality participate?
We encourage all of Connecticut to participate in statewide initiatives for the 250th as well as plan commemorative projects unique to your town’s history, culture, and population. Give 250 Connecticut is your opportunity to engage the community and raise funds for your municipality’s planning efforts.
Q. Who is eligible to participate?
All of Connecticut's 169 municipalities are invited to participate through either a local committee or a 501(c)(3) charitable nonprofit organization that has been designated to raise and spend funds on their behalf.
Q. How will donations be distributed?
GiveGab/Bonterra will disburse all funds collected to CT Humanities within 5-7 business days. CT Humanities will redistribute funds to municipalities or their designee within 10 business days of receipt from GiveGab/Bonterra.
Q. What is GiveGab/Bonterra?
GiveGab, which is becoming Bonterra, is a nonprofit giving platform that helps nonprofits to raise money, engage donors and manage volunteers quickly and efficiently. GiveGab/Bonterra offers a full portfolio of simple and easy to use products that allows organizations to function in a more streamlined manner.
Q. How much of each gift will the municipality receive?
CT Humanities hosts the web platform and provides supports for Give 250 Connecticut without charging municipalities or donors a participation fee. Your municipality will receive the full amount of your donors’ gifts less the following transaction fees:
- GiveGab/Bonterra retains a 2% campaign management fee from all donations.
- The Credit Card processor charges 2.5% + $0.30 per transaction.
- CT Humanities will retain a 10% administration fee from all donations, which will be used for 250th events statewide.
- Donations given via a bank transfer ($100 minimum donation) will be assessed a 2% platform fee and $3.00 transaction fee.
Donors will have the option to cover the fees on their gifts. All donations are final and cannot be refunded.
Any donations processed outside of the Give 250 Connecticut donation period (July 1-11) through GiveGab.com are are subject to the GiveGab/Bonterra management fee and the credit card processer fees. They are not eligible for any prizes and are not subject to the CT Humanities administration fee.
Q. How do prizes work?
Throughout Give 250 Connecticut, you can compete for cash prizes donated by Give 250 Connecticut sponsors. Some prizes are competitive, while others are awarded randomly. The complete list of prizes will be posted in late June, and your organization is encouraged to use creative communication strategies to maximize your chances to win! Municipalities are eligible to win a maximum of two prizes: one grand prize awarded at the conclusion of the campaign and one standard, non-grand prize. If your municipality wins a standard prize, you can continue to compete for additional prizes. And, if your municipality wins subsequent prizes, you will receive the highest valued award. Therefore, prize reassignment may occur throughout and at the conclusion of the event if necessary.
Q. How should we interact with our Give 250 Connecticut donors?
We encourage you to manage your relationships with your donors by keeping them informed and inviting them to the programs, events, and initiatives that you host for the 250th. You should thank them and stay in touch! However, please respect the privacy of donors who have requested anonymity.
FAQ for Donors
Q. Who can donate?
Anyone can donate! Donations through the Give 250 Connecticut online portal are tax-deductible and nonrefundable. Any individual with a valid credit card, bank account or mobile wallet (Google Pay, Apple Pay, Microsoft Pay) and access to the internet may donate; individuals must be responsible for the credit card, bank account or mobile wallet used and be authorized to use it.
Q. Is my donation tax-deductible?
CT Humanities is a 501(c)(3) organization, registered with the CT Secretary of State (tax ID# 06-0902244). Your gift to Give 250 Connecticut is tax-deductible as allowed by law.
As a 501(c)(3) granting organization, CT Humanities is able to raise funds on behalf of municipalities and transfer those funds to them.
Q. Who will receive my contact information?
The organization(s) you choose to support will have access to your name and email address, unless you choose to remain anonymous. This information is used solely to send thank you messages, provide the option to receive future notifications, and to notify you of future activities.
CT Humanities will receive contact information for all donors. Please view our donor privacy policy for information on how we use your information.
Q. Do I need to create an account to make a donation?
No. You do not need to create an account to make a donation. The benefits of creating an account include having your tax receipts collected in one location, being able to track your donations, follow the charities you support, and engage in future volunteering and donations. Your tax receipt is emailed immediately upon processing your donation. To claim a donation as a deduction on U.S. taxes, you should retain the donation receipt as an official record.
Q. Can I make donations via a mobile device?
Yes! Simply visit give250ct.org on your mobile device.
Q. Can I pre-schedule a donation for Give 250 Connecticut?
You cannot pre-schedule your Give 250 Connecticut gift, but you may make a donation to a participating nonprofit before or after the Give 250 Connecticut. In order for your donation to be counted towards prize incentives awarded on Give 250 Connecticut it must be made between 8 AM on July 1 and 6 PM on July 11, 2025.
